Guangzhou Stuff

I came to a point where I dread going to work, unconsciously (or cosciously) refusing to do work and just want to quit. But I can't with all the bills to pay and family to support, I can't just easily quit my job and easily find a replacement. I am lucky to have landed this job but now I felt I am misplaced. I wanted to quit the industry altogether. Ideas just come slowly and sometimes not at all. I guess my unconscious self is rebelling against my situation. Or maybe, I'm just too tired and exhausted.

In the end it's all about the paycheck ....

Sigh...  I hear ya. I had a landscape design/build company in SZ 5 yrs. ago. Many battles over spacing and species types. Those freaking hedges drive me crazy and don't get me started on pruning techniques or transplanting methods. Butchers they are I say...absolute butchers. Pretty sure China is responsible for the term pollarding.

@ Roddin: Btw, it doesn't really matter whatever you do with your planting and design. The Local Design Institute and the Client will change them without giving you notice. They only hire consultancy firms for the name to market their development. Then they do their own thing...

@ Roddin: I'm afraid I'm not that great in planting either but i know what you mean. They also don't consider future growth so what happens is that plants end up in deathbeds (small planter) or plant everything so close together they have no room for growth. If the planting dies they just easily replace them.

@Roderval

I was neighbor to an USA architect that was also doing landscaping in China. It seems they farm out to overseas the design of what you call brutal planting...

I found amazing here that when a tree is on the way of a construction, road, installation rather than hack it down like they do in my country of origin, they get the obstructing tree out and replant it somewhere else and it survives. Is a technique that amazes me and should be universally adopted in other countries to preserve the green.

@ Nelsie I hope you are having luck with trying to change the Chinese landscaping mentallity. Their planting plans are soooo brutal. My best description is that a plane flies over the project and dumps out plant material and wherever it lands they are planted. I would like to see some of your work sometime.

@ Clownsy.... Just poking some fun at ya....what I am trying to say is

You work and work for years and years, you're always on the go
You never take a minute off, too busy makin' dough
Someday you say, you'll have your fun, when you're a millionaire
Imagine all the fun you'll have in your old rockin' chair

Enjoy yourself, it's later than you think
Enjoy yourself, while you're still in the pink
The years go by, as quickly as a wink
Enjoy yourself, enjoy yourself, it's later than you think

@ Smee: Be thankful. Where I am from, the providerr (usually the husband, sometimes wife, eldest child) provides for the family and the wife's extended family as well as his own.. You know mom and pops, and the wife still gets to keep the money to take care of the budget.

@Rodders - I thought we were beyond one upmanship. Perhaps I was wrong. I wonder what Roy Orbison thinks about all of this?

Hey, now, you better listen to me everyone of you
We got a lotta, lotta, lotta, lotta work to do
Forget about your women and that water can
Today were working for the man

Well, pick up your feet, we've got a deadline to meet
I'm gonna see you make it on time
Oh, don't relax, I want elbows and backs
I wanna see everybody from behind

Cause your working for the man, a'working for the man
You gotta make him a hand when you're working for the man

Oh, well, I'm picking em up and I'm laying em down
I believe he's gonna work me into the ground
I pull to the left, I heave to the right
I oughta kill him but it wouldn't be right

Cause Im working for the man, working for the man
Gotta make him a hand, a'working for the man

Well, the boss man's daughter sneaks me water
Everytime her daddy's down the line
She says, meet me tonight, love a'me right
And everything is gonna be fine
So I slave all day without much pay
Cause I'm just abiding my time
Cause the company and the daughter you see
Their both gonna be all mine

Yeah, I'm gonna be the man, I'm gonna be the man
Gotta make him a hand if I'm gonna be the man

Working for the man, a'working for the man
Gotta make him a hand a'working for the man

I know what you are talking about, I have experience. Although I am the provider and make the money I have to beg to my wife to buy the shit I like: I am married to a CHinese lady!
