Wow. I had such high hopes for this place when I took my children and wife. My kids were so disappointed, First-
Building is awesome architecture and display of over the top waste. Awesome, and i could not stop thinking of what possibly great things it could be used for than other than what we saw.
I dont want to harp on the quality of Science education or innovation in the Chinese classroom.... But the whole exhibit had a terribly run down dim chuckey cheese/broken disneyland abandoned themepark feeling to it.
I sweat to god it was like watching adhd extravaganza on crack. Every one running and touching and turning the shiney blinky feel good things and not one person even cared to read or think or know anything of what might or might not be written on the walls.
And I am so happy there was not anything about the ISS.
So anyhow, maybe I have been spoiled by just visiting my lame science fairs growing up as a kid... not to mention and other worldly meuseums...
But i left that places mostly remembering the monstrously awesome architecture, and replicated terracotta warrior like displays of pandas in the front of the building..
And also that some people spent and made huge amounts of money on the design and consturction... What is it there for? Completely under utilized.
If you have any respect for your children, do not let them ever ever go to that museum.
Instead have them stay home and check out the cool stuff online:

That place was so bad. I am so sorry to my children. what a let down. We really wanted to have a good time at the museum.

Comment by Robert Eaton Jr. on July 30, 2012 at 3:06pm Sean--- hey... yeah its me :) Delete, reenable.... not sure why... out with old and in with new
Not sure why.... dont know if they where different aliases though... not intentional... its always just me. Maybe Robert? Maybe AntiNSA? But like a boomerang I guess....
I guess:
Typoglycemia is a neologism given to a purported recent discovery about the cognitive processes behind reading written text. The word does not refer to any actual medical condition related to hypoglycemia. The word appears to be a portmanteau of "typo", as intypographical error, and "glycemia". It is an urban legend/Internet meme that appears to have an element of truth to it.
According to wikki... since its a legend.... I guess I like to think of it as descriptive about my writing :)
But yeah.... I guess it ties in to that autistic freaky side of me deep down..... Yeah...
I can say if you want to see a huge awesome piece of architecture it is cool.... but yeah so bad inside...
Bathrooms... my wife made me add that... she is right though ... We really wanted it to be good.... It was billed as either the largest science center in China, or the largest in the world.....
It did have a painting of the Starship Enterprise though.......
No time to slow down :) Hope all is well. Well check out the IMAX one day there though.....
Comment by Seán on July 30, 2012 at 1:50pm Oh....now I realise who you are Robert. Why do you keep deleting your profile and then joining the site again under various different Robert aliases?
There is vast difference betweem Typoglycemia and your writings. Vaaaaaaast.
It's like as if you were writing this while snorting vast lines of Speed or something. Slow down man.
Never been to the Science Center, but will put it on my bucket list now.
Oh and thanks for the heads up about the cleanest toilets at the bus stop. The next time I'm feeling like a crap, I know where to go.
Comment by Smee 瑞纳多 on July 30, 2012 at 1:17pm That is why nobody is going to see me in a museum or exhibition here in China.
Even the tourist attractions here sucks big time. But it is easy to avoid those bad places: If you see a sign with brown characters describing a place, go to the opposite direction.
Comment by Jenny Wanderlust on July 30, 2012 at 11:53am What do you think of the Guangdong Museum next to the Opera House?
(no comparison to Western wonders such as the Natural History Museum in London but I thought it was a nice attempt)
The Chinese are never really good at maintenance, security and crowd control... They weren't even good at behaving in public...
Comment by Robert Eaton Jr. on July 30, 2012 at 9:32am In fact , it was so bad the next day I can help feeling like i could get those hours of my life back. I never want my children to associate the idea of science with what we saw there. Jeezuz. Parents sleeping in broken exhibits, even if functional offered little purpose... A terrible place that we must spend the next day brainwashing out of our children's minds..
Comment by Robert Eaton Jr. on July 30, 2012 at 7:11am yeah... try typing that in five minutes flat with a baby in one hand. thank god for Typoglycemia . (next olympic sport?)

"Amzanig huh? Yaeh and you awlyas thguoht slpeling was ipmorantt."
But I guess your lack of comment on the main topic of the post means you are a fan of the science center. FWIW the bathrooms outside near the bus stop are the cleanest I think i have ever seen in China.
Comment by Seán on July 30, 2012 at 2:06am Jesus H Mao man, it's kinda difficult to read your blog.
I hope you're not an "English Teacher", are you?........Please don't say it's true!
Commas, and punctuation marks!.... can go a long way.......I hear, but then again, maybe it's just hearsay.
Your blog is like "Ulysses" for the forgotten generation, or some'it......
