Bowling Etiquette from "The Dude"

Well, a "dude," and not the "dude," "el duderino," and the such. Now I'm sure I pissing in the wind here, but I just had to vent! So bowling's kind of meditative for me, I typically go alone to toss my frustrations along in the form of a 15 pound ball at a bunch of unsuspecting pins and chuckle when they go…

The Wishing Tree - A Narrative

image

Wishes are futile. Wishes are everything. Wishes are but one goal embodied by action or gesture; blowing them damn candles out every year, trick or treat, true or false, righted or upside down, fulfilled or left to the whims of yesteryear, wish, wish and wish away. And that I did, some years ago, whether that whimsical sense of future became my today, I’m not entirely sure, but I continue to let that “splish-and-splash” of tides washing up on shores far…

Today and Tomorrow...

They dangle from line and bamboo rig, much like the oranges welcoming luck they tend. I snap and snap and snap overhearing the journey home come work’s end to begin the train's plight. It’s the year of the snake or so I’m told, and I hadn’t ever trusted a snake, but all’s good in the land of dragons. Having missed Christmas and another's birthday, I feel relief in a kind of happy solitude, so much so that if I’d met a snake in the breeze, this empty…

Gratitude

The above quote by Deepak Chokra perfectly captures our deep sense of gratitude today and how, as we remain open in a state of thankfulness, we also leave ourselves open to appreciating and harnessing our world's ability to awaken the power, wisdom and creativity within us. Bring it,…

the question is...

who the hell took my lighter and didn't return it? at the party i mean, i'm the new kid on the block, who would do something like this to an innocent, clueless newcomer? i'm so appalled at the lack of something here. morals probably. i even had to ask average guys to light my cigarette. cute ones seemed to be non smokers, spoken for or emasculated. the worst part is that i missed a lot of punchline while looking for a damn lighter. the whole thing was humiliating. i want…

ONE NIGHT IN GUANGZHOU(广州一夜)

111 Faces 013:: Joyce

111 Faces 013:: Joyce [China]

Funny fact: I saw Joyce the first day I came to China my first time in April. Although the +24 hours of trip (bus-plane-train) and the Tsingtao beer made my memory of that evening foggy, and remembered her perfectly so it was a no brainer to shoot her for the project. I'm sure my friend David Llada still remembers that night.…

111 Faces 011:: Owen

111 Faces 011:: Owen Zuo [China]

This young man works in the technology industry. The city of Senzhen is known by everyone to be an strategical point in new technology production (apple for instance) and Owen is part of it, not as a worker but as a business man. What I first thought was a shy guy became really confident in front of the camera and we were able to create a couple of good shots of him quick enough. Shot taken in Zhujiang New Town (珠江新城),…

111 Faces 012:: Irina

111 Faces 012:: Irina [Ukraine]

Irina is a lovely ukranian woman currently living in Guangzhou. She has been in the city for around 4 years already and she is working as a model for multiple events in the city. Working with local and foreign brands for both China and international campaigns. She has an incredibly interesting family story (with one of her sister working professionally in a circus) that got my mouth opened more than once. Unfortunately, I'm…

111 Faces 010:: Irene

111 Faces 010:: Irene [China]

Former english student, Irene is one of the nicest girl I’ve had the chance to meet in Guangzhou. She is currently living in ZhuJiang New Town (one of the most beautiful places of the city) although, ironically enough, she is planning to move to Barcelona, Spain, because of a job offer. Despite the +35ºC in the streets, she managed to pose for the camera graciously. Shot taken in ZhuJiang New Town (珠江新城), Guangzhou (广州) in a…

111 Faces 009:: Julia

111 Faces 009:: Julia Bigler [Russia]

This russian-style Mona Lisa has been living in Guangzhou for a few years already. Enough time to master the language to a point that her speaking skills are almost native-like. Not surprising though since previously she studied Arabic language too. She uses her language skills in her job, working as a translator and interpreter for a Russian company. She was lovely enough to agree to do the portrait in a day that was…

Her state of…

This Canadian freelance Journalist has worked as a model in Korea, china and other asian countries. In fact, he is planning to move to Singapore to give a more serious try to his modeling career. He's a total pro, the day I met him, he was totally prepared for the shooting even though I told him this was more an informal shooting than a real photo session. Besides freelancing for magazines, he also writes for his…

111 Faces 005:: Kanwal

111 Faces 005:: Kanwal [India]

Kanwal is an hindu woman currently coursing her internship in general medicine in Guangzhou. She's been studying in the city for 4 years. She is vegetarian and, honestly, I have no idea of how she does to survive in a city full of people that eat every single part of almost any animal, but she does. Shot taken in Martyr's Park, Guangzhou, with Fuji  NPS 160 in a Mamiya C33.…

Project:: 111 Faces

I like to undertake personal projects. I like it a lot in fact. Sometimes is just me and my camera, sometimes they imply more people, although I've always liked to keep them pretty intimate. Anyway, I consider personal projects as a way to keep creating work, not stoping, feeding your creativity and pushing your boundaries. And this time I'm pushing quite a few. I've always loved street photography, in fact, my early influences were Magnun street photographer such as Cartier Bresson or Bruce…
