Comment by Leo Nichols on April 9, 2013 at 12:30pm Alex, There isn't any place that expats hang out. The Koreans will congregate at the Landmark Hotel in the Korean Restaurant and their KTV. Even the AISG (American School) people tend to find their own activities and most of them live in the city proper.
I work at the Crowne Plaza, we tend to go out late Friday nights to the restaurants on Kaichuang Avenue and we will hit the downtown scene whenever possible. We do have a real bar at the Crowne (the Mad Scientist, hidden in the back) but it caters to hotel guests during the week and it isn't very busy.
Send me a note, I will let you know when we are going out.

Comment by Alex S on April 8, 2013 at 5:15pm Science Park and LuoGang - where to go for good clean fun?
Hello, everyone! I just moved from TianHe to Science Park / LuoGang area to be closer to my workplace. While I appreciate clean air and lush greenery here, there is a certain vacuum in terms of going out or meeting people. And one cannot just go back to the city every damn time! On the other hand, I noticed an American school one block from my house and a sizable Korean presence. Where do all non-Chinese go here to have a beer or meet, even if occasionally, other expats? There is a Tennis Center, but it looks deserted. The Crown Plaza is OK place, I could walk in there anytime, but no real bar or locals there, as far as I can tell. Anyone - any tips for attractions or worthwhile spots in a 5 mile radius? Relevant help is highly appreciated!
