Jazz is not dead! The 1920 at Jiansheliumalu has Chinese jazz bands playing every night. 191Space has a jazz trio every sunday. JZclub has jazz every Friday, Saturday and Sunday. This Saturday April 21 2018 Joe Longardner will play at JZclub with some local guys. Besides that, Hope and Sesame host jazz and blues every night of the week. Then there are smaller venues like 别野 (jazz on Friday, near Dongshankou), a coffee place called Peace of Mind (我想静静, jazz every Saturday, near Taigucang) and Zacup has jazz a couple of times a week. New players are welcome, the best occasion to jam is at 191Space, every sunday night at 12. Please stay in touch and come out to support jazz Guangzhou!

Is Jazz dead in Guangzhou? How many players are there? Who are they and what do they play? Or is it just the same two or three guys playing at the same club(s)?

Cool. I found this venue on Saturday night. I asked a guy who works there if there was jazz on Sunday. He said there was no one playing. See you this  Sunday. Thanks

Hi Ben and others, drop by at 191Space, we jam every sunday after our gig around 12, as long as there are people coming out to jam. Hope to meet you soon!

Drummer looking to practice some jazz standards. Been studying jazz for a few years, found myself in China without people to jam with. If anyone is looking for a drummer then don't be a stranger, get in touch. Thanks

Hi, there is a really nice new cocktail bar in Guangzhou which hosts live jazz music every night. It's called Hope&Sesame, or 庙前冰室 in Chinese, it's near Dongshankou station on Line 1 and 6. I'm helping the owners book the music, and we're always looking for new jazz talent. If you're in town for just a bit, live here, or planning to come to Guangzhou, and you play jazz at a high level, please send me an email at hoogland@gmx.net or contact me here.

Hi, for you of those still in Guangzhou, I thought I'd write a little update on the jazz scene:

First of all, the Guangzhou Jazz Festival starts today, more info here:
http://www.lifeofguangzhou.com/node_981/node_989/node_996/node_1017...

Besides that, JZ club Guangzhou is doing well at promoting jazz and getting international acts in. Find them on wechat with wechat ID: JZ-club_GZ or go to their not so up to date page on GZstuff.com:
http://www.gzstuff.com/profile/JZClubGuangzhou?xg_source=activity

Third, 191Space has a jazz quintet playing every Sunday from 10 till 12, with a jam session starting from 12 o'clock till late. Follow the link below for the address:

Fourth, 1920 at Jianshe 6 malu has jazz bands every night, from 7:30 till 11:30, mainly local bands:

Hello! I've heard at least about  two festivals in October 2015 (or maybe they are the same).

About one of them I've known from this article http://www.lifeofguangzhou.com/node_981/node_989/node_996/node_1017...

22-30 Oct

And also I've seen kind of pink ad in the streets. There was term from 1st Oct.

Does anybody know something about at least one of these events? Write me in PM please
