Otaku is Japanese for Nerd, and both can be use for either gender. Otaku, is literally like "Mr/Ms House", which refers to the fact they are people who's obsessive interests are those which keep them in the house. The idea that it only has to do with Cartoons and Comics comes from the fact that usually the only time most foreigners come in contact with the word Otaku is when it is used in relation to those interests, but it is a phase that covers all the nerdy interests: cartoons, comics, playing board games, playing cartoon/fantasy/comic based card games, studying fantasy stuff, dressing up as stuff, collecting stuff, and all the other nerdy stuff. Being an Otaku just like a Nerd is a big commitment. One I personally cannot make, but I do like Japanese animation.

Wonder what you guys call a girl who like animes,cartoons,these stuffs..In chinese we call them 宅女, and boys and OTAKU as 宅男.

The comic show that I talking about is like an animation festival,many cosers,toys,and SURPRISE!I supposed to go today but the suck weather stop me at home.so plan to go on Jan.1!!anyone want to go?

Apparently there will be an animation festival Oct. 1-5 for national day. I'm not sure where it is, I'll post when there are more details...
