Why doesn't anyone want to sit next to me on the bus/metro!!??? :'(

Situation: Typical over-crowded bus.. (ok so it was a shuttle bus not public..not that there's anything wrong with taking the public bus *cough*...) and it's obvious there are more people then seats available.
Fortunatley I'm ahead of the pack and get a seat. I sit on the inside to graciously and conveniently leave room for someone to sit down. People crowding on... I see their beady eyes desperatley scanning the bus for an empty seat. Oh what luck! An empty seat near the front of the bus.. but wait.. what's this? A foreigner? No no.. can't sit there. It seems they would much rather stand then sit next to such a person. Finally an elderly woman, much to her dismay, sits down next to me... I can't help but notice she's hovering right on the edge of her seat half into the isle.. Now I consider myself a fairly friendly person, the non-intimidating type..and i know for a fact there was no lack of deodorant on my part, nor do i have a foul odor protuding from me. However, this wasn't my first experience with people not wanting to sit next to me.. so all I want to know is why people... why!? Have you had similar experiences? Is there some ancient chinese myth that claims 'thou must not sit next to foreigners during public transport' ????

Don't get to upset by it, it happens to me on the buses, the metro, or trains, and I do not wear cologne, I shower and sanitize daily and nightly. If they do sit next to you as you stated its as far as they can in the direction away from you. It is almost as if you are going to pass some disease across to them, that will end civilization. But be happy also about it, in a country where majority still do not sanitize themselves properly (correction, what we consider properly), avoidance can go along way in helping you not be over intoxicated by foul smells at times and in the summer time that is a blessing you can't even pay to get. So just take a seat, smile and enjoy the comfortable room you have all to yourself as you travel around the city comfortably in your own seat.

next time give me a call when u go out. i will catch the same bus with u and sit behind u close to u . my pretty Melissa. u r welcome. i like u . pls 4give them. they r welcome u too. just do no know how to speak english so shy to sit near u . i promise if they can speak some. must like to close to u and chat with u during the trip in the bus.
