Guangdong Modern Dance Company presents, Hong Kong Theatre Design Company and hahaha Concept Band for Theatre coordinate, the site specific modern dance “Positioning @ GuangZhou” is going to take place on June 21-22 in the area of Sha He Ding, Guangzhou.
Positioning
Positioning is a choreography interactive platform established in the summer of 2009 for Hong Kong local independent dance artists. Using “city” as the main source of inspirations, several high quality dance works were created since then. The project received Hong Kong Dance Award in 2011 for the contribution to dance education, community dance, academic research and services.
Positioning @ GuangZhou
In recent years, urban renewal became a critical issue among citizens of Hong Kong and Guangzhou. Historical buildings were replaced by the skyscrapers, and cultural deposits were ruined by material aspirations. People lose their positions in the city. The same thing happened in these 2 different cities around different people. Taking this issue for creative input, Positioning @ GuangZhou introduces a number of environmental dances created by Hong Kong and Guangzhou independent choreographers. They are CHEUNG Hok-leung Rick, HUI Chun-Kit Cyrus, LEUNG Tsz-yan Cherry from Hong Kong, and Hu Xiao, Guo Rui togother with Guangdong Modern Dance Company dancers from Guangzhou. The dances will be presented in 3 different sites in Sha He Ding, Guangzhou old town, which are a secret garden (GMDC Garden, No. 13 Shui Yin Heng Lu), a ever under- construction site next to Guangdong Song and Dance Theatre (No. 32-34 Shui Yin Si Heng Lu), and a jazz tea house (ARTONE, No. 60 Xian Lie Dong Heng Lu).

Artist Bio
LAU Tin-ming one of the Artistic Coordinators of Positioning @ GuangZhou (Hong Kong)
Graduated from the Hong Kong University with Bachelor of Arts, majoring in Comparative Literature and Fine Arts, LAU Tin-ming focused his research in the history of modern dance in Hong Kong in the 1990s, and received a Master of Philosophy in 2004. Tin-ming gained the Postgraduate Diploma in Education in Liberal Studies in the Hong Kong Baptist University. He is a registered yoga tutor of the US Yoga Alliance (RYT® 200).
Hu Xiao Choreographor (Guangzhou)
Graduated from The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, Hu Xiao presented two full-length works at the Guangdong Modern Dance Company Small Theater in 2005 and 2006. In 2011, he set up Hu Xiao Choreography Studio in Guangzhou.
Guo Rui Choreographor (Guangzhou)
Graduated with a bachelor’s degree in performance and dance education frome Beijing Dance Academy in 2004, Guo Rui studied Modern Dance at the Hong Kong Academy for the Performing Arts in 2005 and had enrolled in the diploma program of the P.A.R.T.S (Performing Art Research and Training Studios) in Brussels, Belgium since 2006. He is interested in creating dance with conceptual content. In March, 2012, he worked as a guest choreographer in Guangdong Modern Dance Company and created a conceptual modern dance titled “In-Between” with Guangdong Modern Dance Company dancers.
