MAINTENANT is a public situation performance presented by Ping Pong China-Europe Centre for Performance Art at its inauguration in September 2010. By interdisciplinary forms such as installations, videos and theatrical performances, Maintenant deterritorializes from a specific situation into a metaphor about a forming community. The spectators are free to wander according to their own desires. Through taking part in the actions, such as using, manipulating or moving the scenic elements, new emotional and conceptual reflections are nurtured between the inhabitants and the territory. Maintenant is an open space to explore the notion of territory itself. There isn’t just one show, but several paths that each person chooses to follow or invent according to his sensibility.

During the rapid urbanization process of Pearl River Delta area, temporary gatherings and communities are formed by people from different social classes and cultural backgrounds. Maintenant reaches out for meditation on the local territory in globalization. It is a heterogeneous hub where multiple subjectivities and narratives clash into other, merging the borders between fiction and reality, participation and representation.

Maintenant is initiated and created by French art association Les Videographes and Ynopsis Theatre. Ping Pong CECPA invites them to work in residency with local curator, artists and performers to participate in the process of translation and contribute to the conceptual and visual adaptation. Maintenant constructs a micro-Utopia by the appropriation of grass-root culture together with local wisdom. Maintenant is produced by Ping Pong China-Europe Centre for Performance Art, supported by European Commission DG Education and Culture and French Consulate in Guangzhou in collaboration with 1850 Creative Park.

PING PONG CECPA aims at building a platform for performance, research, education and publication in public space. As a laboratory, CECPA devotes to experiments between artists, educators and institutions. Interdisciplinary collaborations will be encouraged between dance, music, contemporary acrobatics, situation performance, street circus and multimedia installation by providing residency facilities. By September 2011, the first educational program for street art will be opened to public application; internship opportunities in European institutions are available during the program. An international street art festival supported by 1850 Creative Park is also due by October 2011. Ping Pong China-Europe Centre for Performance Art is founded by Ping Pong Art Institute, Guangzhou and Ilimitrof Compagny, theatre company from Lyon, France. Supported by European Commission DG Education and Culture.
