ADDRESS HELP:
BTW folks, if any of you have trouble with the address or the local lingo (i.e. the language) and are worried about finding the place, just TEXT the word "Windflower" to 106695882929.
It's a "text-only help-service" called GUANXI, for foreigners mainly.
It'll reply in a text message within about 30 secs with the address in Pinyin...... and then just reply to THAT message with a simple "c" (for Chinese) and it will send you the address of Sutras in Chinese Characters.
Perfect for showing the Taxi Driver.

Comment by ida on October 23, 2011 at 3:55pm robert, aren't you in a similar business to mine? how do you have time to organise these parties? why do you bother?
Comment by Robert W on October 22, 2011 at 9:57am Jimmy, I do hope that you do become more active in events planning. From what you told me , you do have good experience. We are volunteers when we help out in GZstuff member parties.
Personally, I think it's cool to work with guys like Sean and Andrew. It's great experience and very rewarding ( not in a monetary sense ). I do hope there are more of these kinds of events as it does help make a difference in the community.
Comment by Andrew on October 21, 2011 at 1:56pm What exactly do you care about Jimmy?
Comment by Jimmy James on October 21, 2011 at 11:12am I don't know how to make it more clear- I don't care about the money.

Missed all the hullabaloo in the Chat Room, cos I never use the chat room, as I've never seen a sensible convo in there.
Thanks for defending Robert, and just to confirm Jimmy, I've helped organise the last 3 GZstuff members parties over the last 3 years and I have not made a single Renminbi off of any of them. The first one cost me money in buying a few things for the party and I had to pay for all my drink too. At the 13,500 members party, the owner of the bar kindly offered me free drink tokens but as there were too many, I ended up just buying drinks for lots of people with them. Same at Sutras, I didn't pay for a drink. I've never asked for any compensation monetary or booze wise, but it is nice to get a few free drinks.
If I wanted to make a profit, don't you think I'd throw the members party at my own bar?
And people have always asked me why I don't organise the GZstuff members parties at my place, but the simple answer is that, we always host these parties on a weekend night to allow more members to attend and so it wouldn't be possible to get 200+ people into my place on top of the normal weekend crowd.
As for finding Sutras, I only saw 1 comment from someone who said they couldn't find it. I did the above map up in Photoshop and reckon it couldn't be clearer than that....plus the address is there in English and Chinese. If someone can't follow a map or an address in China, then god help them.
200 to 250 people seemed to have no problems finding it.
As for the pool games, I only had 3 or 4 people approach me and ask to sign up to the game initially and as it wasn't enough people for a real game of killer, we let anybody and everybody play away and by the time we got more interest in playing Killer, the party was in free-flow and there were plenty of females enjoying the pool, so it would have seemed unfair to kick them off the table.
As for the boat party, I wasn't involved nor did I make it there so I can't comment on it.
I hope this clears up any doubts people may have about the Members party. We organise them so that people who "know each other from the site" can get a chance to meet each other in real life. It's never about making money, it's all about people having a good time.......and a good time seems to be had by the majority who attend......well at least those who go there with a positive mindset :-)
Comment by Robert W on October 21, 2011 at 7:05am Jimmy I have responded to you personally about the boat party.
Comment by Jimmy James on October 21, 2011 at 2:26am No need to say it again, my comments are not about the cancelled boat party. I'm not interested in the cancelling of that boat party. For the party that wasn't cancelled, I tried to get tickets, I called one organizer and he said no tables no tickets at the door, called another one and he said I could reserve a ticket at the door and gave me a different price than what was posted at the time. Also the guest list was messy at best so I commented on a suggestion on how to be consistent.
so another gzstuff party!...talk face to face...in person with everybody together...drink alot...question sovled...!
seriouly, always appreciate those who make huge effort to organize party for gzstuffers havin a great time. cheers boys, youre the best :)
Comment by Jimmy James on October 21, 2011 at 1:48am Yes, I honestly don't care about money aspect at all. I was making a silly reply to someone else's. Anyways, I honestly don't care about money.
I don't have a nice camera right now but I suppose someone could take a picture of which direction to head towards from the Garden hotel or the immediate surroundings. I was trying to help one person who made it there but gave up and went home. Another got all the way to the... Holiday Inn but couldn't find it from there. Relative directions, maybe.
I know there was an SMS service or something like that but I don't think it'd be too much for a club to have a simple phone service that responds to SMS with an SMS of the address/directions in English/Chinese or picks up calls to talk to taxi drivers.
Anyways I went with some friends and we were interested in the 8PM games but nobody really saw it. Saw tables leaving at 11:30 to go to other clubs so we left at midnight. They said nothing was happening. Went inside to the dancing area and nobody was dancing.
I also got pissed off when people were jumping on me saying that I never organized events but dodged any questions I had for them.
The last time I tried to get a table for the boat party I called 2 of the numbers and got 2 different answers for the same question. I put comments up for that event but didn't get any replies.
Anyways, I'm a pessimist that's used to different styles of partying, I suppose. If you took the comments personally, I'm sorry.
Comment by Robert W on October 21, 2011 at 1:27am And Jimmy, what pissed me off was you used some pretty strong words that was not called for. And you were doing it in the chatroom behind the organizers back without giving us a chance to defend ourselves. You could have approached any of us and we would have been more than willing to discuss it with you.
